# Metafields

The three product metafields SUPRA reads.

Metafields are extra data you attach to products beyond the standard title, price and description. SUPRA reads three. None of them exists until you create it, and each feature stays invisible until you do.

| Metafield | What it does | Type |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ | ---------------- |
| [`custom.colorways`](/supra-shopify-theme/supra/metafields/colorways.md) | Links colour variants that are separate products | Product list |
| [`custom.colorway_name`](/supra-shopify-theme/supra/metafields/colorway-name.md) | Names the colour under the product title | Single line text |
| [`custom.badge`](/supra-shopify-theme/supra/metafields/badge.md) | The small corner note on collection tiles | Single line text |

## Not a metafield, but often confused with one

The filmstrip's **new** markers read the Shopify product **tag** `new`, not a metafield. Add it under **Products → Tags**. See [Filmstrip](/supra-shopify-theme/supra/sections-and-features/filmstrip.md).

Two different systems for what looks like the same thing, which is worth knowing before you wonder why a badge isn't showing in the strip.
