Taskbar

The taskbar, the Start menu, and the tray.

The bar along the bottom of every page: the Start button, a button for every open window, and the tray with your social links, the sound speaker, the cart and a clock (on phones, just the cart and the clock — the socials and the sound switch move into the Start menu). Find it in the theme editor's sidebar under Taskbar. Selecting it opens the Start menu so you can see what you're editing.

The Start menu

Top to bottom:

  1. Your menu. Build it in Content → Menus. Items with children open as submenus, the way 98's Programs menu did.

  2. Extra links — Extra link blocks, each with a label, an icon and a link. Handy for one-off links you'd rather not add to your navigation.

  3. Your social profiles — with one profile set, an entry named for it — Instagram. With several, Socials, which opens onto each one, like a submenu. (A computer also has them in the tray.)

  4. Favorites — products the shopper saved with Add to Favorites in a product window, with their pictures. Kept on their own browser; (Empty) until they save one.

  5. Documents — the last five products they opened, newest first.

  6. Search and Cart — always there, whatever your menu holds.

  7. Policies — when you've written at least one policy under Settings → Policies. Opens the Policies folder.

  8. Regional Settings — when your store sells in more than one country or language. A window to pick country (and so currency) and language.

  9. Help — your FAQ, when the Help (FAQ) section is on.

  10. Display — when Let shoppers change the colour scheme is on (Appearance). Opens Display Properties.

  11. Sleep — starts the screensaver.

  12. Account — when customer accounts are turned on in your Shopify settings.

The window buttons

Every open window gets a button on the taskbar. Click it to bring that window to the front, or to bring back a minimised one.
