Password Page

The locked storefront — a notice, a countdown, an email sign-up, a password window, and games to play your way in.

While your store is password-protected, visitors get a locked desktop: a Website locked notice with an optional countdown and email sign-up, a button that opens the password window, and — if you add them — games that reveal the password to whoever wins.

It's the Password section on the password template. Open it in the theme editor from the page picker at the top.

Flat shows the image as it is — an animated GIF of a spinning logo spins on its own. 3D spinning builds a solid, extruded version of your image and turns it a full circle. Below about 8px of depth the sides look thin as it turns edge-on. Both stay still for visitors who ask for reduced motion.

Background

By default this page shows the store's wallpaper from Theme settings → Wallpaper. To give it its own, for a launch picture or a teaser video, tick Use its own background and set:

Countdown

Off by default. Tick Show a countdown and pick the moment from five fields. There's no date format to type:

  1. Year, for example 2026.

  2. Month, from the list.

  3. Day, on the slider.

  4. Time, from the list (1 am … 12 pm (noon) … 11 pm).

  5. Minutes past the hour, in steps of 5.

Everything is read in your store's time zone, from Settings → General in Shopify admin, daylight saving included.

The digits are red, in black wells, like Minesweeper's counter: days, hours, minutes, seconds, and hundredths of a second (MS) ticking fast in the last box. Line above the numbers defaults to Store opens in. Clear it for no line.

Check the date in the editor

In the theme editor only, a yellow note under the countdown says what you set in words, e.g. Counts down to Saturday 10 October 2026 at 6:00pm EDT, your store's time zone. It also says if that moment has already passed, or if the date doesn't exist (31 February). Customers never see it. Untick Check the date here in the editor to hide it.

When it reaches zero

Choice
What happens

Show a message (default)

The digits are replaced by Message when it ends, We're open! by default

Show an Enter button that logs visitors in

The message plus an Enter store button. Pressing it opens the password window, types your password in for them and takes them straight into the store

Hide the countdown

It disappears

For the button, put your storefront password from Online Store → Preferences in Your store password. The button appears the second the countdown hits zero, with no reload. The password is only written into the page once the countdown is over, never before, so nobody can read the page source and get in early. Someone who watched the clock run out gets it fetched in the background when they press the button.

This doesn't open your store. Password protection stays on and every visitor still lands on this page. The button is a way past the form, not a switch. Turn protection off in Preferences when you open for good. Once the countdown is over, anyone can read the password in the page source, so change it afterwards if you use it for private previews.

Email sign-up

On by default: a line under the notice's buttons, Get notified when we open, with an email box and a Notify me button. Pick how emails are collected under Collect emails with.

The built-in form

Each email becomes a customer in Customers, subscribed to email marketing and tagged newsletter and password-page, so you can find exactly who signed up here. Change the line, the placeholder, the button and the Thank-you message in the settings.

A Klaviyo form

  1. In Klaviyo, go to Sign-up forms and create (or open) an Embed form. Publish it.

  2. Copy its embed code. It looks like <div class="klaviyo-form-XyZ123"></div>.

  3. In the theme editor, set Collect emails with to A Klaviyo form and paste the code into Klaviyo form ID. The whole code or just the ID (XyZ123) both work.

  4. Make sure Klaviyo's app embed is on: Theme settings → App embeds → Klaviyo.

If the form still doesn't show up, paste your Klaviyo public API key (Klaviyo → Settings → Account → API keys, 6 characters) into the optional field below it, and the theme loads Klaviyo itself.

The form sits in a white box inside the notice. Style it in Klaviyo's form editor.

Another app's form

Omnisend, Mailchimp, Postscript, Shopify Forms or anything else: set Collect emails with to Another app's embed code and paste the app's embed code into Embed code. It takes the place of the built-in form.

This is also the way to collect phone numbers: Shopify's own form only takes an email, so the app that sends your texts has to collect the number.

Unlock games

Add a Game block — any of the eight games — to let visitors play their way in. On this page they reveal the password by default, OPEN. Change Password revealed to your real storefront password from Online Store → Preferences, or the reveal won't let anyone in.

The game is never the only way in: the password window is always there beside it. And it's a tease, not security — the password is readable in the page's source by anyone who looks.

Opening the store

Winning a game lets that visitor in. Nothing on this page opens your store to everyone — turn off password protection under Online Store → Preferences for that.

The credit line

A small Powered by WEBEXP line sits at the foot of this page, under the copyright. It only appears while your store is closed, so customers never see it once your store is open.

Want it removed? Leave a review on the EXP-98 listing and send a screenshot to our Instagram or email — we'll take care of it. The same note is at the bottom of the Password section's settings in the theme editor, under WEBEXP credit.
